High School Students to Participate in FIRST Robotics Chesapeake Regional Competition

The 8th Annual FIRST Robotics Competition Chesapeake Regional is to be held at Baltimore Convention Center.

The FIRST Robotics Competition is an annual event that inspires the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators. In the competition, students of high school will design and build robots to compete in a fast-paced sports-like challenge.

To compete in this year's FIRST Challenge, called BREAKAWAY, students on 49 high school teams from 10 states including 24 teams from Maryland will bring their robots to Baltimore. Every team in this completion score goals through soccer balls and finish each game with robots suspended in mid-air.

The various teams will join the competition supported by engineers, their teachers, and mentors. They will compete in a series of challenges aimed at testing their robots, building alliances, cooperating in teams, and exercising gracious professionalism.

The competition will take place on March 12 and March 13 at the Baltimore Convention Center; it is free and also open to public.

In related news, the Office of Naval Research sponsored a team of local high school students participating in a robotics competition March 5 to March 6 in Washington.
