Teams from National Taiwan University (NTU) have walked away with a major chunk of the $971,140 million in prize money announced at the 2009 National Robotics Contest.
The NTU teams successfully competed with 102 teams and won two of the three championships, according to a report from
Taiwan News.
Particularly, the teams participating in the event were the proud winners of the Intelligent Security Robot Contest held by SKS securities and the Intelligent Robotic Arm Contest held by Hiwin Technologies Corp.
Held at the Taipei International Robot Show, the contest was organized to encourage students to create new robots and boost industry development in Taiwan. Organizers also said they hoped to discover new talent and stimulate academic and industry cooperation through this event.
The 2009 National Robotics Contest was divided into three main themes: home service robots, intelligent robotic arms and security robots. The Intelligent Robotic Arm competition was reportedly won by Team Adam from NTU team. The winner of this championship was Team Rambo, which displayed a multi- sensor fusion-based wheeled security robot that has the ability to detect unauthorized intruders.
The award winning robot is also equipped with features such as remote control, motion planning, obstacle avoidance, image transmitting and processing, automatic message sending, environment detection and voice detection, the Taiwan news report notes.
