South Korea's Dancing Robot Does Dishes Too!

Who wouldn’t want a robot to do their house work for them! But this robot seems to be more than your average Joe. Not only will it do your chores but, it could be your dance partner too.

South Korean researchers have happily announced that they have manufactured a robot that not only dances but can do all your chores too! The robot, Mahru, can move its lips, eyebrows and even pupils freely to make faces and can emit two kinds of fragrances to match its emotions. It can also move its upper body while walking on its legs.

The robot was developed by a research team at the state-funded Korea Institute of Science and Technology.
"Mahru, which can dance while walking on its legs, was developed as a humanoid robot capable of working in place of a human. It will open the way for the commercial use of humanoid robots doing housework," team leader You Bum-Jae said in a statement.

Mahru will be shown at the 2008 Robot World at the COEX Center in southern Seoul.

The robotics industry has always been an interest of scientists and designers alike. In the United States, development for robotics has increased because of the war in Iraq. As reported by TMCnet, robots that are to be used for military personnel and emergency personnel are going to hit the $43.7 Billion mark by 2014.
